Two Reading parks have been selected for awards rewarding their innovation.

Forbury Gardens and Caversham Court Gardens both picked up Green Flag Awards 2014 for innovation.

The Green Flag scheme is the equivalent for parks as the Blue Flag for beaches.

Paul Todd, Green Flag Award Scheme manager at Keep Britain Tidy, said: "Research has shown that quality parks and green spaces play a vital role within their local communities. All the winners are perfect examples of how our green spaces can positively contribute to the local environment and bring the community together."

Caversham Court Gardens was recognised for its Compass Project which helps those with mental illness through gardening and art.

Forbury Gardens put on a celebration of its 150th year of operation and commemorated signifcant events in world history throughout the year in the gardens.
